I'm using the latest ECS beta stuff on Windows 2000 with IE 5.00.2920 (128 bit encryption). I'm using another Windows 2000 Server as a proxy server to the Internet. That means that all of the machines are getting DHCP parameters from the Server, which is getting a DHCP address directly from the ISP. The ECS web stuff works fine on the ECS machine. All of the groups load. All of the items defined in the group load, their graphics display, and their states, after the appropriate Java applets run, update and are changeable. I can access ECS via the hostname and the assigned IP address, using port 3000. On the remote machines, also all running IE 5 but with 40 or 52 bit encryption, I can access the ECS web server through either the remote hostname or the assigned IP address, using port 3000. All of the groups load in the main page. When I load a group, it loads all of the items, but does not load the graphics or the states. When it's loading the states, IE's status indicator displays the following error (but only the first time or when I clear the local browser cache): exception: com.ms.security.SecurityExceptionEx[Ecsio.connect]: cannot connect to "LOCALHOSTNAME". The localhostname is the name of the machine that is running the browser. I'd give you the name but then I'd probably get to see if the Windows 2000 firewall works. I've tried the same thing using the ECS web server remote IP address with the same results. I assume that since this involves a security error using a Java applet that IE thinks that the applet is trying to access a local resource outside of Java's sandbox, which IE will not permit it to do. BTW, I'm not seeing any increased traffic on the net, other than what I would expect. I've run a sniffer on the network, and the only traffic increase that I'm seeing can be attributed to the http requests that load the Java applets. I hope this helps. I think Mark is using Netscape, so he doesn't see problems with IE5. Hopefully there will more compatibility with future versions of both browsers.
