aj - are you using any alternate command shell? i found that i couldn't use the 4NT/4DOS
enhanced command line shell on my ECS machine because of the
way that ecs spawns executed items. what happens if you start the machine with nothing
running and just type, from a command line, "start notepad.exe"?
