Subject: From: Date: | BETA upload Mark Gilmore Sat, 06 May 2000 13:50:38 -0400 |
Hi all,
I am uploading a new beta with 3 improvements:
1) ECS now supports a new "periodic update" method for sending update
packets to Java applets (web pages): Updates are sent only once/sec
(instead of EVERY time a State changes). This approach eliminates
a possible problem whereby a displayed Group Item changes very
frequently
(sending an update packet for EVERY change could overload TCP/IP).
The original method is still supported for JAVA scripting
programs (which need to monitor ALL State transitions).
2) This previously-documented IE setup change is NO LONGER REQUIRED
(you can restore the default of "AUTOMATIC"):
OLD instructions:
For Internet Explorer (IE):
Click TOOLS.
Click INTERNET OPTIONS.
Click TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES.
Click SETTINGS.
Under "Check for newer version of stored pages",
select EVERY VISIT TO THE PAGE.
3) Per Dario's suggestion, ECS now uses a "free-running timer" to
trigger timer messages to ECS (each timer message triggers the
execution of one Event-pass). I did this to address Michael's
lockup problem, whereby his timer messages were occasionally
being "missed" (reason unknown). If this occurs with the free-running
timer, it's no big deal, as another timer message will be
forthcoming.
