RE: [ECS] DOS Version of ECS

Hey - sounds like my life! :)

My first computer was a TRS-80 Model I, when they first came out. I spent a
boat-load of money (at the time) on the thing. Everyone around me,
including my family thought was crazy. I remember clearly saying, over and
over, "computers will be a way of life someday, and everyone will have one.
Just you wait and see!"

>From the TRS-80, I went to a Commodore Pet, then to a Kaypro, then to an
Apple II, then to the Mac 128 (Serial # 62 - which I still have in it's soft
case somewhere). The next four years brought a Mac 512, a Mac Plus, a then
Mac II. At some point I grew weary of paying so much money to keep up with
Apple's newest!

Much like you, I got the robot bug somewhere in the mid to late 80's. So I
also picked up a Hero 1. That's one toy I wish I had kept!

Around 1988 or so, I too decided I wanted to try to program my own X10
control app. So, I bought my very first PC, and a copy of Borland C. After
beating my head against the wall for months (I'm not much of a programmer),
I finally got it to work. It was actually rather impressive (or I thought
so), but then I saw Dynasty - which looked like it did so much more, and
would save me from all that head-banging. :)

The rest, as they say, is history. :)

Cheers!

I bought Dynasty 1.0 and a Dynaface from Barclay Brown at Home Automation
Labs at Comdex Spring in Atlanta in 1991. Before that, I had been running
my house on self-written software / self built hardware on a Kaypro CPM
machine. Before that, I had been doing extensive X10 control on my TRS-80.

ECS DOS 3.3 is still running most of my house. As I get time, I am slowly
moving items and events to a new machine running ECS Win 4.0

I still have my TRS-80 Color Computer, Serial number 0000006. And my
Heathkit Hero 1 Robot, Serial number 0003. Now, who remembers those?

Sure do - I started with Dynasty way back in 91. I think it was version 1
back then. :)

Cheers!

I might win the most-ancient-version-still-running prize. Running Dynasty
3.0 (aka ECS) - been running 24/7 for *many* years :-).

Anyone old enough to remember that <g>?

Larry
