Subject: From: Date: | MS-DOS lockups A.J. Griglak Mon, 8 May 2000 12:28:58 -0400 |
Mark,
Based upon your comments about the problem I was having, I decided to look
closer at my hardware. Since I've got extra parts sitting around, I plopped
in a different motherboard and switched from a Celeron 466 to a PIII 500. I
also found out that what I thought was a hard drive problem turned out to be
the hard drive ribbon cable. When booting, the system would sit for about
45 seconds while it was determining the type of hard drive. I had always
assumed it was a flaky hard drive, but continued to use because I saw no
other symptoms - except for the MS-DOS problems that I have been balking
about ;-)
I haven't seen ONE lockup in the two days since the change. I strongly
believe it was the damn ribbon cable and not the mobo/cpu. Another problem
caused by one of the cheapest parts in the system!
Happy again,
-=A.J.
