I had to develope personally a FAX software which could coexist with the
house-ansering machine and call-center. Existing software couldn't live
together with.

A friend of mine tried to spawn a DOS-fax receiver soon after a key was
pressed on the answering machine. It was tricky, but it worked: usually
you had to hang on and call again, so the now-running fax machine could
answer.
Hope this helps. I don't know about Mark's solution.
