Thanks for the info, Dario, I thought you had somehow gotten ECS and a Fax
app to use the modem simultaneously, and I was wondering what kind of magic
you used. :-)

Yes, yes... you need to be a rather-low-level programmer! :-))

I guess having a second modem and/or line should be good, you only need
to find a commercial fax software which allows being launched and
stopped when ECS needs it. I know Winfax has DDE, I thought about using
it when I was in trouble!
