There are any number of MP3 players available that will do the kind of
thing you're looking for.  I'm not sure about integration with ECS though.
Check out Real Player or Win Amp or Music Match.  They all allow
categorizing the music and creating extensive lists of tracks from a
central library.  I've been using Music Match at work to listen to MP3s and
it's pretty decent.  Music Match will also rip and encode your CDs very
quickly, though I have some doubts about the quality of its encoding.  When
I really care about the quality I prefer to use CDex to rip and LAME to
encode.  Music Match is fine for casual listening when you only need
FM-quality sound, but I wouldn't trust it for critical listening.

Be sure to keep us informed on how you make out with this.  I've been
thinking about doing something similar.  I have a 200-CD changer which work
reasonably well, but, like you said, it's a total pain to set up complex
programs.  It's enough of a problem just programming in the CD titles.
