RE: [ECS] BETA upload and feedback req

Mark,

All of the recent stuff I've downloaded was from a link in your email. I
can't seem to find the links on your site to get the latest stuff. Can you
tell me where I get the updates/betas? I realize that you've probably sent
an email about it before to the list and I just didn't see it.

BTW, library that I referenced for Debian 2.1 is the standard Gnu C library.
Apparently, Debian did their own thing and so don't normally ship the
library. According to my friends at Caldera, virtually all other
distributions include the library as a standard dynamic library.

Subject: [ECS] BETA upload and feedback req

Hi all,
I am now uploading a new BETA.
It SHOULD be ready in 15 minutes, BUT please check the date
before downloading, as we may lose power due to weather.

I would esp appreciate any critical feedback you may have
for #31 below (ASAP). HomeToys is going to review ECS and
I would like to release this upgrade so they can use the
new help/documentation when doing so. THANKS

----------------------------
NOTE: This beta enhancement has been "UNDONE", as it is not required
(I found that the TVL*.TXT files may be viewed directly as web pages):
    28)	When creating TVLNEW.TXT (in TVL.BAT) and TV-GUIDE.TXT (in
TVL4.EXE),
TVLNEW.HTM & TV-GUIDE.HTM are also created (for display as web pages).
In TVL.BAT, I added these lines (just prior to "GOTO EXIT"):
		rem Create HTML file:
		COPY PRE.TXT+TVLNEW.TXT TVLNEW.HTM
		GOTO EXIT	[LEAVE THIS LINE]
To see the related additions in EXAMPLE.CFG, search for "HTM".
----------------------------

	4.4.003 (06/08/00)

    19)	At startup, ECS now loads all SR-Session commands at once,
rather
than reloading all commands every time another SR-Session Item
	is initialized (it's MUCH faster).

    20)	ECS no longer reloads SR commands when an SR-Session command is
spoken which has no acknowldege or terminator command, as such
a reload is not needed (and slows things down).

    21)	ECS now accepts remote phone-session passwords with
access-levels
lower than OWNER (i.e. USER-level passwords are now accepted).

* 22)	This IE setup change is NO LONGER REQUIRED:
		Click TOOLS.
		Click INTERNET OPTIONS.
Under "Temporary internet files", click SETTINGS.
Under "Check for newer version of stored pages",
select "EVERY VISIT TO THE PAGE".

I recommend that you RESTORE this setting to "AUTOMATICALLY",
as this will speed up your "normal" (none-ECS) browsing.

    23)	Web pages now initialize faster (States appear sooner).

    24)	Corrected problem related to the rewinding and fast-forwarding
	of phone-messages (during playback).

    25)	When converting recorded messages to .WAV files, ECS now raises
the volume by 700% (so as to address the problem whereby recordings
play back too quietly). To override this setting, create a TEXT
Item named "ECS_RPC_WAV_GAIN" whose text is the percentage to
adjust (e.g. "300" for 300%). You need NOT restart ECS to test
such adjustments (just save the Text Item).

    26)	If you find that TTS is playing too quietly thru your modem,
create a TEXT Item named "ECS_TTS_RPC_GAIN" whose text
is the percentage by which you wish to increase the volume
(e.g. "300" for 300%). You need NOT restart ECS to test such
adjustments (just save the Text Item).

    27)	Text-Line comparisons made via the IS/T1 operator are no longer
	case-sensitive.

    28)	HTML (web) versions of the Item and Event Editors are now
supported.

* 29)	The following "ONLOAD..." command (in the BODY statement) is now
REQUIRED for all ECS web pages (please update any CUSTOM pages
	accordingly):
		<BODY ONLOAD="document.Ecsio.onload();">

* 30)	The FILTER commands in TVL.BAT should be modified as follows
	(per enhancements to FILTER.EXE):
	-------------
	OLD:
		rem Delete unwanted channels:
		FILTER @%1.CHN TVLNEW.TXT 0 29
	NEW:
		rem Delete unwanted channels:
		FILTER @%1.CHN TVLNEW.TXT -flcol0:29
	-------------
	OLD:
		rem Delete unwanted shows:
		IF EXIST TVLDEL.TXT FILTER @TVLDEL.TXT TVLNEW.TXT 0 0 1 -
	NEW:
		rem Delete unwanted shows:
IF EXIST TVLDEL.TXT FILTER @TVLDEL.TXT TVLNEW.TXT -txtend -dontcare:-

    31)	The ECS HELP dropdown now lists commonly accessed sections of
the manual ("Software setup", "Hardware installation", etc).
Also, the manual's various software/hardware setup sections
have been overhauled. I would appreciate any feedback on these
	changes (esp CRITICAL feedback :-)).
