Unsupported Modems

Hello All. Thanks for the help with the Active-group item. I've got
that working. Next, I use a Hayes 25th Anniversary 56k voice/fax/data
external 'tube' modem. The Tube part comes from the modem case design
that allows you to place the modem ontop of the monitor with the speaker
and data lights hanging over the front of the monitor.

I like external modems because when they act up all you have to do is
reach around and toggle the power switch. Plus, you can see if they are
working properly just by watching the lights. Now, Phone-interface-C
only talks to modems with the Rockwell Voice Chipset. How can I find
out what chipset I use?

How can I use this modem, which has operated flawlessly for several
years now, with internet connections, e-mail, ect... and ECS? Is there
planned a modem device that does not require the rockwell chipset?

With ECS now almost entirely a Windows 95/98/98SE/2000/ME product,
can't the Plug & Play aspects of windows allow a more comprehensive list
of supported modems?

PS. I am very interested in the Linux version of ECS, since I have an
old 586 laptop (8 meg of mem) that would be perfect for my needs as an
ECS platform. They don't make the memory for this thing at a reasonable
cost, so Win98 isn't an option.
