Paul,

Sorry, but I forgot to discuss the "easiest" way of determining what chipset
your modem uses.

Take a screwdriver and open up the case.  Look at the integrated circuits.
If the modem is older than 3 or so years, it's most likely a rockwell
chipset.   I believe Hayes used rockwell almost exclusively, but may be
wrong.
