Subject: From: Date: | Re: [ECS] Controling another computer's software Scott Reston Tue, 20 Jun 2000 08:54:05 -0400 |
i currently run ECS and Winamp on separate machines. i take advantage of the fact that
i've got web servers running on most of my machines and use a
web browser to build and run playlists from remote machines (and from ECS). i've got
a little info about the script i wrote at:
http://therestons.com/info/mp3list. that version is out of date, but if you're a programmer,
you can probably pick up my lead and build on it. you'll need a perl
interpreter to run my scripts.
another possibility: if the program you are using on your remote machine can accept
command-line arguments, you can execute it using a piece of code that
a friend of mine wrote. you'll need to have a java runtime on each machine for this
one. you can find info at: http://www.mindspring.com/~mither/execute/
i use his script extensively with ECS. basically, you run the server part on the remote
machine that will be receiving commands... when you want to kick off a
command, you run the client piece with the arguments that you want to execute remotely.
i use this in conjunction with David Kindred's WACTRL.EXE to
control winamp.
