Well, what you *could* do is use an x10 outlet to switch a 120v relay that feeds the
power to the GFI. I think the GFi would work right off the x10 outlet, but there might
be power requirements that I dont know about. Anyway, I think most electronics parts
stores would carry a big relay that could feed the GFI circuit and maybe all the outside
patio outlets too....

Hello all,
Has anybody sucessfully automated their pool filter (and possibly light) and
how did you go about doing so? I have a new, above-ground pool and don't
want
to keep plugging-unplugging the filter every day.
I saw that smarthome.com has an all-in-one controller that provides X-10
control of the filter, a timer and optional accessory X-10 control switches
(for
pool light, etc.). However, it is somewhat pricey and (I believe) all of
which can be
handled alternatively using ECS.
In addition, my pool filter has a 110VAC twist-lock connector. Code in the
area requires that any outlets outdoors be GFI protected. Altering the plug
on
the filter voids my warranty. All this catches me between a rock and a hard
place as I cannot find an X-10 with GFI protection.
Can I use a GFI breaker and have and X-10 controlled outlet? This would
satisfy code as the outlet is protected. However, I don't know if the
outlet would work properly (X-10 signal propagation and GFI operation)?
Has anybody overcome these problems? Any/All suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Stephen Weiss
