Subject: From: Date: | The perfect Weather solution! READ THIS! Kevin Keast Tue, 8 Aug 2000 20:25:34 -0400 |
Hi folks,
After a long time in looking and using long EDM command files I finally
found the perfect weather source that is very easy to configure in ECS!
Weather by E-mail:
http://www.weatherbyemail.com/
It is easy to subscribe to get your local weather in an e-mail.
Here is how I do it:
1. Connect to ISP (If applicable)
2. Set up a text item to execute a batch file with the following line:
POSTIE -host:pop.host.net -user:username -pass:password
-file:wxemail.txt -pat:"*Forecast*" -rm
The above line executes POSTIE and looks for the e-mail that is sent each
day (you specify when on the web site). POSTIE saves the text of the e-mail
as a file "wxemail.txt" in my case.
The -rm removes the email from the server.
3. Next you execute a VERY simple EDM script. I create two files: One is
for current weather and one for extended weather:
My script: r wxemail.txt
F Today's
d-
f Extended
d+
w wx.txt
r wxemail.txt
f Extended
d-
f Eastern
d+
w wxextended.txt
quit
The "f Eastern" keys on a word that always appears before the "weather by
e-mail" advertisements. You want to receive your first couple of wx-emails
to check out what words you need to search on to "crop" or "parse" the
advertisement junk off the text file.
The results are PERFECTLY formated weather reports.
This is an awesome way of getting information! No more headaches with
parsing ugly html pages for weather! Yippie!
I am also looking at movie-email sights to get movie listings e-mailed to me
each week and plan to do the same thing. I am still looking for a good
site. I am looking for other sites too that send automatic e-mails!
If anyone can think of sites that may be good, please let me know. Also if
you can improve on what I have, that is great. I just got this working a
couple days ago.
Good Luck everyone!
Kevin
