Frank,
Did you try unzipping the file that PKZIPFIX had tried to fix? It can
actually corrupt the ZIP file instead. The problem is that WinZIP has a
number of extensions (the one I can think of right now is support for long
file names) that PKZIP doesn't know about and PKZIPFIX will destroy. I
believe WinZip is still able to write a PKZIP-compatible file with some
obscure options (for instance, the option "save file names as 8.3" in the
add dialog box should be checked when creating the ZIP file), but since
nobody (well, almost nobody) uses PKUNZIP any more, the details are very
little known.
As for your problem: I would suggest you re-download it and then use WinZip
immediately to unzip it. Of course, I have no guarantee that this really is
the problem, I'm just taking an educated guess here. It's also quite well
possible that the ZIP file really is corrupted.
