I just emailed Brian directly some info I have that has a text description of the cabling, if anybody else wants it let me know. It also has the pcstat software, good for testing stuff outside of ECS. I don't have anything in electronic graphical format, so he may still like the fax. -----Original Message----- From: Brian McGinnis [mailto:bd@brianmcginnis.com] Sent: Saturday, September 09, 2000 7:19 PM To: ecs-list@netbloc.com Subject: Re: [ECS] RC-80 Connections Thanks Bill, I would appreciate it if you would fax me the page(s) from your manual. My fax number is (406) 482-4871. It's funny... I have 3 of them and they all came with two manuals; an installation and a user's guide. But I have no mention of the RS-232 pin-outs in any of them. I checked HAI's web site and it's pretty lean on this sort of stuff. I think they want you to be a dealer. I have two RC-100's and, yes, multiple 'stats can be connected to a single RS-232 serial port (up to 128, I think). It all works because the communications protocol defined for the 'stats is unit number address specific and only the specific 'stat addressed by a command will respond. Each 'stat must be assigned a unique unit number at setup time. ECS supports this quite well. If you don't have the installation manual, I could fax you the relevant pages from mine on Monday. I would also suspect that HAI could email you a .pdf file that includes the information if you need it quicker than that. Let me know if you need me to fax what I have. The owner's manual says to refer to the connection diagram provided by the automation software, and the ECS manual says to refer to the manufacturer's instructions. It's a 4 pin connector with yellow, green, red, and black wires on it. I'm assuming it's RS-232 and want to hook it up to a DB-9 connector on the PC. Since I have 3 of them, do I have to dedicate a serial port to each one? The manual says they can be connected in parallel, but I didn't think the RS-232 spec supported this... perhaps it's RS-485? Thanks, Brian
