Re: [ECS] Need help with phone sound.

Thanks everybody for both the personal replies and the ones here on the
list.

It seems that my biggest angst in making this conversion is losing some of
the capability to call extensions with announcements.

I am still on DOS, and want to get the ECS Win up to speed before I shut
down the DOS version.

My problems in my own "beta" phase of my implementation so far are:

1) The sound via the Zoom modem is horrible. There is really low volume,
and it's distorted.
I added the ECS_ADPCM_REV item and set it to 1 and the problem is worse.

For text to speech, I have tried Mary and Mary for telephone. It already
sounds like she is in space, or in a stadium, without adding those special
effects!

I realize this is a hardware limitation, and not software.

What are you guys doing to work around this? Has anyone found a better voice
modem ?

BTW, I found that the modem (Zoom 14.4V) was on the Win 2000 hardware list,
so I re-installed it as a Zoom 14.4V. It does work better now...(It didn't
work at all before....).

2) When making paging announcements, there is about a 5 second wait before
sound even starts.

Can this be configured to only 1/2 second ?

3) I cant get .wav files played to the phone during announcements, either by
specifying them in the phone call item, or by leaving the phone call item
"open" by using the X parameter at the end of the dial string , and then
playing them via PLAY->PC:Ln/Sp .

I get a "Error #13 permission denied" error.

What is the trick here ? The wav file play to the sound card great. Can
somebody send me a code snippet as an example so I can see what everyone
else is doing for this?

Otherwise, I feel like I am re-inventing the wheel here. I am starting fresh
and re-writing my entire ECS code. Since I have eight years of ECS code, I
am having some difficulty remembering some of the algorithms used when I
originally wrote the code. Is there a way to easily include remarks in event
code ?

Thanks guys !!

Reddy
