If I were Mark, I'd implement a well-defined, standards-based interface for
ECS telephony. And, without a doubt I think the best specification for an
inexpensive cross platform solution is the Java Telephony API (JTAPI). Yes,
I'm a Java freak. JTAPI provides functionality to handle call control, IVR,
physical device control, etc. And, the Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum
(ECTF), a group comprised of some of the biggest names in telephony helped
draft the API specification and the code implementing the specification.
And, it's scalable. It will run on mobile phones to SS7 switches.

Subject: [ECS] Phone-Interface
I have been frustrated with my Zoom modem, both with the quality of the OGM
and the sound level of the messages. I know Mark has tried to refine this,
but aside from Mark, it appears that most of us struggle with this.
Previously I started a dialog to try and find out what the group wanted out
of the Phone-Interface, and what they were unhappy with. So here I am again,
looking for opinions. I'd also like someone who has some background in this
area to step up and direct any dialog in a positive direction. I am woefully
inadequate in this area.
Any takers?
Don
