AJ,
FYI, I'm fixing the UI and adding more error handling right now, so tell
me when you recieve your hardware. I'll send you the beta.
In terms of your question. iButtons have a couple attachment options
one of which is a keyright. I have carried a Java enabled iButton on my
key ring everyday for the last two years. It's still as nice as the day
I got it. For the "punch out" idea, my software has two setting for
"the presence of ibuttons".
a) Whenever a button becomes attached or leaves the network a message
can be send to indicate the ROM (the exact button) that left or was
added.
b) Link to a specific true/false item in ECS for a specific button. If
this button is on the network then the item is true, else false.
I haven't implemented this in my house, so I don't know which is the
easiest to code yet.
Nathan

Would these i-buttons work as a home/away switch? They are little
things
you can attach to a keyring, right? On the way out the door, you would
"punch out" of the house. Is this possible with ECS?

Hi Nathan,
I just ordered a couple of things from them! Sounds awesome!
Very interested in your DDE interface!
Excited too!

I just finished writting an 1-Wire interface to ECS. It uses the DDE
Interface to update the values of any item in ecs based on the one wire
network. I developed it so I could use 1-Wire digital temp sensors
(cheap and acurate). I was curious if anyone else saw a need for this
program. It is currently kind of custom to my implementation, so if
there is any need I would be willing to make some modifications to make
is more generic.
Either post something to the site or email me directly.
