I have spent the last week or so looking at the RSA algorithm that we just released
to the public on Sept. 20, 2000. The patent expired, and now you can incorporate the
algorithm into products that you make without having to pay royalties. There are several
higher math ideas here that I dont understand well, but after scouring the internet
I found enough help to make a basic program that calculates the numbers and seems to
work. I did this in qbasic and I can bring the programs in for any of you who want
to look at them. Anyway, I think this has potential to be used on the web interface
in ECS. There is a product called Securid that I have seen, where you have a keyFOB
that has a 6 digit number that changes every minute. I understand it is based on the
RSA algorithm and a hash of some sort. My thought was by using this idea, I could put
a box on the webpage that asks for the password number and would not show/update things
until it matches.... anyway, there is a good explaination of the securid system here:
