I have a 50 ft cable because my ECS computer is in the basement, and my A/V stuff is upstairs in the family room. I don't have any experience with the Powermid stuff, although I do use Xantech's XtraLink2 (http://www.xantech.com/products/p_folder/p_172.htm) stuff at the same time. As far as the temperature sensors, I'm confused... Hopefully someone else can shed more light than me. As far as I know, you need to buy another module that works in line with the Ocelot (SECU-16)... -=A.J. -----Original Message----- From: Joseph LaFerla [mailto:jlafe@ntnet.nt.ca] Sent: Monday, December 18, 2000 12:15 PM To: ecs-list@netbloc.com Subject: RE: [ECS] Ocelot/Leopard Thanks A.J. I think I am going to buy an Ocelot. I still don't understand fully what you use the 50 foot cable for though. I have the X10 powermid transmitter/receiver pair. Do I take it that I plug the Powermid transmitter into the Ocelot IR out port. That would seem to make sense to me, that is, I could point my remote at the Ocelot and the IR signal would go out the Ocelot into the transmitter to the receiver and to my stereo (or something like that). I have not read the ecs.htm stuff yet. I will do that today and get back to you if I have any questions. Does the Ocelot have ports as well that could be used for temperature sensors and the like? -----Original Message----- From: A.J. I ordered an extended IR out cable from Worthington (I think it's about 50 feet). This plugs into the IR out port on the Ocelot. There is a built in IR in reciever on the Ocelot. You simply point your remote towards the port on the Ocelot, and use ECS to 'teach' both the Ocelot and ECS the IR signal. It can then be sent to your TV/Cable or whatever. There is a section in ECS.HTM which explains all this. I haven't experimented with the stereo or CD players yet. I'm not sure if you can put the IR cables into a 'Y' cable or not. The one I bought has two emitters on it - I use them for SAT and VCR - this way ECS can record TV shows. One thing to note, though, there is a VCR remote group in EXAMPLE.CFG that has ICONS that you are supposedly able to click on and have it send the proper signal to the VCR - mine is always off by like one digit when using the ICON-CLICK stuff. But, it works fine from ECS coding (which is where I use it most.) Good Luck! -=A.J. -----Original Message----- From: Joseph LaFerla [mailto:jlafe@ntnet.nt.ca] Sent: Sunday, December 17, 2000 7:15 PM To: Ecs-List (E-mail) Subject: [ECS] Ocelot/Leopard Hi I wonder if someone could please advise me. I am thinking of upgrading my Enerlogic 1400 (this is prehistoric by today's standards I think!) What do I need? I checked out the ocelot and it looks like it can be connected to a TW523 for X10 control. What about IR? How does that work? I want to be able to control my stereo, TV etc. using IR. Should I get an ocelot or leopard? What about accessories? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Joe
