Might make sense, but it depends on what Nathan wants to do with it. As
Nathan pointed out, there may be a need for custom protocols, and my
original suggestion was to provide some intermediate-level support for that
kind of thing. Personally, I would think there might be a need for
*inbound* custom protocols, as well.
