I am the one who is asking about this!  I first tried using port 89 (the
default port) but that didn't work (firewall) so I tried 3000 (the port ecs
legacy uses which used to work when I ran ecsl).  Port 3000 works fine to
intiate the connection but the java commands don't go through and provide
the error message referred to below.  do you know if ecs can be configured
to use the same port for java as for http, i.e. in my case both 3000?

It sounds like the server on the other end is down or you have a fireweall
in-
between that's throwing away your packets.  Try doing a "telnet <host>
<port>"
and see what kind of error you get.

I guess your Internet connection works as you were able to send that
message...
