Subject: From: Date: | RE: [ecs] Zap2It WHIPPED Bill Walters Sun, 4 May 2003 10:45:57 -0500 |
Mark,
Well, I guess I'm really confused now...
The RS-485 hub is just that, a hub. It provides no "intelligence" per se,
to the network, just passes along signals...
The CS30 (or variant of) has the intelligence, along with WinEVM software,
to program and control the keypad units.
It is my understanding, from reading the docs on the beta (of Object ECS)
some months back, that Object ECS could interpret KPG8 keypad "presses" or
"button pushes" and "screens". I did not understand that ECS could change
KPG8 "screens" nor program KPG8 "screens" similar to what WinEVM does with
the CS30 controller (or variant of)...
My basic question is "Do you have to have the RCS "controller" to fully
utilize the KPG8 keypads with Object ECS?"...
A parallel would be like saying ECS can utilize the AppDig SECU-16I module
(but you and I both know it REQUIRES either an Ocelot or a Leopard to do
so).
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,
I really have no idea (knowing very little about these devices).
If this CS30 thingy supports the same protocol as the RCS-Hub, it should
work.
And if so, please let me know, so I can document it.
