Re: [ecs] a more general bluetooth question (clarification)

Maybe it might help if you defined more what you are actually trying to
accomplish? Are you trying to just generally add a marketing bullet
point "supports Bluetooth" or are you trying to support some specific
device?

The only bluetooth devices I can think of that really matters in the
market are cell phones and PDAs.

You may also want to look at the BlueTooth service profiles. Each
Bluetooth device reports what it is capable of doing, and the general
category of device. For instance, a common profile is "Headset". Another
profile is "Phone". My phone (Sony Ericsson T610) offers the following
services: Dialup, File Transfer, Handsfree, Headset, Imaging, Object
Push, Serial Port, Synchronization.

Dialup is the service that allows using this phone as a modem.
File Transfer is for getting files (pictures, sound) from the phone.
Handsfree is for connecting to a headset
Headset is also for connecting to a headset. The difference is in how
the headset behaves (Handsfree allows voice dialing from the headset).
Imaging is for the camera in the phone.
Object Push (I think) is for getting files (pictures etc.) into the
phone.
Serial Port, I'm not sure. I think it's somehow related to dialup
Synchronization - is for synchronizing the address book with Outlook.

In order to do anything meaningful with Bluetooth, you'd need to first
identify which services you want to support.
