Subject: From: Date: | FYI: How to run DELL PC diags and how to do a complete system
reformat/restore Mark Gilmore Sun, 23 Apr 2006 11:39:01 -0400 |
I got this valuable info from DELL this morning:
To run DELL PC diagnostics:
a) Restart the computer. At the blue Dell screen, rapidly tap the F12
key (do not hold it down)
b) B) At some point, the Advanced Options menu will appear
c) C) Scroll to and select Boot Utility Partition [press Enter]
d) A window Appears.
e) D) Click on Extended Test
To restore DELL PC/OS to factory defaults (REFORMATS HARD DISK):
1. Power the computer on.
2. When the Dell screen appears press and hold the Ctrl key on the
keyboard, press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time.
The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.
NOTE: Press the keys one time only. If you press them more than once,
a keyboard error will occur and the process will have to be initiated again.
3. Click the Restore button or press the Tab key to highlight Restore
and press the Enter key.
4. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
Click the Confirm button or press the Tab key to highlight Confirm
and press the Enter key.
5.The Progress window appears. Once the process is begun, Dell PC
Restore usually takes only 8 to 10 minutes to complete.
6.When the restore is complete, the message The system recovery
process was successful appears.
Click the Finish button or press the Tab key to highlight Finish and
press the Enter key.
7. The computer will restart.
