It doesn't really matter if you "feel" like a pirate. You can't use the same product key on two different computers (unless you have a volume license agreement, and got a volume license key from Microsoft). According to some rumors - this is not confirmed - , Microsoft is building a "kill switch" into XP. If you don't install their Genuine Advantage tool, XP will simply stop working in September. This is extremely controversial; it seems that there are quite a few false positives - systems that are legal, but "Genuine Advantage" reports that they aren't. Bottom line: don't do it. In all honesty, I can't completely blame Microsoft. Since I started consulting, I was blown away by how many of my calls I'm getting about "please fix my system; I didn't realize that my dealer sold me a pirated copy of Windows". I've seen some of the pirated versions of Windows. They look very good, very authentic, unless you look closely. These are serious criminal operations, and I can't fault Microsoft for shutting them down.
