As you say Mark, with Firefox I do see the messages in the status line but
with IE7 no such messages.  Is it an new issue with ie7??

hi everyone,
if you use IE7, and do *not* see "Modify/delete Object(s)" in the IE7 
status line (at bottom of window)
when you move the mouse over "EDIT" button, then please let me know.
i am not seeing any such status messages with IE7, but am not sure if 
this is a problem specific to my PC.
i normally use FireFox, so i don't know when this problem started happening.
