The error message says that you didn't turn on STARTTLS - and the instructions agree with that: SSL/STARTTLS is mandatory. As Mark already told you, the free version of Postie does not support SSL, so you would be out of luck. BTW, depending on your mail client, STARTTLS may be called various different things. Usually, you'll find the terms TLS, SSL, or secure somewhere in the description. You may also sometimes see the protocols called POP3S and SMTPS (analogous to http:// - https:// They actually use the same encryption). As another aside and a bit of trivia, SSL and TLS are almost exactly the same thing. There is one difference: SSL is encrypted right from the start. That is why it uses a different port number (465). TLS starts out unencrypted. The mail client then sends the STARTLS command to switch to encrypted mode. That is why TLS works over the same port as unencrypted connections. This is primarily important because some mail clients only support SSL but not TLS.
