The good news is that it will be considerably less. My own CD
distribution (which unfortunately isn't ready for prime time, and
currently on ice due to time overcommitment) is about 140 MB. RedHat
probably requires quite a bit more, but it should be fairly easy to keep
it below 650 MB. The only caveat: you probably would run into trouble if
you try to install X.

It's not a big huge deal, thanks to the "mount" command. Simply mount
the floppy as /var and the ram disk as /tmp (or some such), and create
symbolic links for all the files that need to be writable in /etc.
Figuring out which ones need to be writeable could be an issue, though.
