From the command line:
ps ax
will show you what programs are running
Here's a sample from one of my TIVO's:
/var/hack# ps ax
PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND
1 ? SW 0:00 init
2 ? SW 0:04 (kflushd)
3 ? RW 0:01 (kswapd)
4 S3 SW 0:01 bash /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
58 ? S 0:06 update (bdflush)
81 ? SW 1:13 EventSwitcher
82 ? S 15:06 MfsDaemon
83 ? S 0:00 fancontrol
111 ? SW 0:00 Sark (mcp)
114 S3 SW 0:00 bash --login
116 ? SW 0:00 /var/index/tyserver
<snip for brievity>

Subject: [ecs] Knoppix task monitor ?
I suspect that my startup is working and ECS is running.
But I cannot find any pgm under Knoppix that will allow me to see
what tasks are active. It's *definitely* not listed in the GUI menus
(been thru them a gazillion times). But I *know* that such a pgm must exist.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Mark Gilmore
