There is a java version of Opera and a non-Java. This happened to me too.
If you install the non Java version you get those little image boxes. IF
you install the Java version it will work properly, except for some sites
that require IE or Netscape. I ran into that too.
Unfortunately, when you select the java version, it installs the Sun version
of Java which is considerably slower than the old Microsoft Virtual Machine.
So I installed the non Java version of Opera and if I want to go to java
sites I'll use something else. Quite a pain really.

Subject: [ecs] Opera status
I can't get Opera (pre-installed under Suse) to support JAVA.
I get only little boxes that say "Image". Never seen anything like this
before.
The "Validate Java Path" test reports that all is well
(and I verified it manually by looking at the dir contents).
But the "Enable Java" box is grayed out (and so can't be checked).
I have extensively searched the www, but can't find a solution.
Thanks,
Mark Gilmore
