Yes, usually that works very well. I wouldn't pay a tech to transfer the
innards, though. It's very simple to do yourself with an hour or two of
your time.

If you don't want to do it yourself, you probably are better off buying
at least a new motherboard & CPU with the case. The cost for the local
tech would probably be more than the cost of a new motherboard.
