Hi Mark,
It would really depend on what kind of cards you needed to install/remove. If
you're thinking of just changing hard drives, you can get an external chassis
for that and connect it through USB2.0/1394 or install a hard drive rack inside
your computer so that the hard drive can just be pulled out through the front.
Most other peripherals nowadays can connect through serial/USB/1394...
